和琉折衷の文化「エイサー」の歴史を学ぶ
〜 じゃんがら念仏踊りを迎えて 〜

内 容 ●基調講演=宜保榮治郎／沖縄芸能研究家
『エイサーの歴史 〜袋中上人、テーラシカマグチの功績〜』
●演舞=じゃんがら念仏渡戸宿若組＆いわき東ライオンズクラブ有志

今年のうるま祭りのテーマは、沖縄・ヤマトの和合を願った「和琉祭」と位置づけています。沖縄を代表する伝統文化エイサーは1603年、福島県出身の浄土宗の僧・袋中が沖縄にもたらした念仏が沖縄の言葉に訳され、沖縄のメロディーがつき、民衆に伝えられたことがその原点とされています。そして、この袋中を沖縄で支えた豊見城のテーラシカマグチという人物のことも文献に残されています。沖縄が守礼の島であるならば、この袋中とテーラシカマグチの両方に対して感謝するべきではないでしょうか。そして、まさに和琉折衷の文化であるエイサーの真の発展を通して、沖縄とヤマトの和合、ひいては世界の和合へと連動させる祭りが必要だと考えます。
よって今回、袋中創設とされていて、ある意味エイサーと兄弟ともいえる福島県の旧盆行事じゃんがら念仏踊りの方々をこの祭りに招聘致しました。いわき市の無形民俗文化財にも指定されているこの伝統ある文化を沖縄に招聘できることは、非常に意義深いことです。
つきましては、じゃんがら念仏踊りの方々と、沖縄のエイサーに想いを寄せる方々とで、互いの文化について、また自分たちの役割と現状における問題点などについて語り合い、沖縄とヤマトの明るい未来の関係をつくっていく一歩にしたいと思います。
